Jeff Rich 6-12 Turtle Bay Science Docents
6-12th graders are welcome to participate in this docent opportunity. This one will start in the spring. Working at the museum has more flexibility for you and can last as long as you would like. We will start the training in March and once you are trained the museum will be able to use your services whenever your schedule allows. Weekends, summer, however much time you want to put in to it. Here at school it will be during Tuesday mornings. We will be going to the museum on Tuesdays in March, April and May. We will be working as docents from 9-noon. This is set up so you can do both Fish Hatchery and Turtle Bay Museum and get your science credit by participating in these Tuesday classes. Be sure to fill out the application in the fall of every year:)
Jeff Rich 6-12th Grade Coleman Fish Hatchery
We work at the Coleman fish hatchery with the biologists (helping spawn fish), and as docents, answering questions for other schools during their field trips to Coleman. We drive to the hatchery Tuesday mornings from early October to mid November. If you are interested in this docent program opportunity please fill out the application form. High school students will be granted credit for their work at the hatchery too. This program is open for all interested students in grades 6-12.
Stellar Living History Docents
The Living History Docent Program is an innovative collaborative program with Stellar Charter School and the Shasta State Historic Park. Docents are registered with the California State Parks as volunteers in parks. The goal of the program is to make the history of Shasta during its boom years (1850-1860) come alive for visitors to Shasta State Park. Docents dress in authentic period clothing and portray prominant pioneers of Shasta.
